GOVERNANCE

River Church is a fast-growing church, committed to being a healthy, sustainable organisation with great governance.

River is a registered charity in England and Wales (no. 1194553) and a Bishop’s Mission Order (BMO) in the Church of England Diocese of St Edmundsbury and Ipswich. This means we are overseen and regulated by the Charity Commission and the Bishop of St Edmundsbury and Ipswich.

River Church is led by our Senior Pastors, Amy and Matt Key, and governed by our Board of Trustees—a group comprising Amy and Matt, members of the church, and representatives of the Church of England. The Board are legally responsibly for the church, oversee major financial and legal decisions, and help to make sure that the church is heading is the right direction. The Board delegate the day-to-day running of the church to Amy, Matt, and the wonderful staff team, who support our amazing volunteer Dream Team.

TRUSTEE ELECTIONS

Trustees are elected to the Board on a yearly basis, at our annual Family Meeting, which usually occurs during a Sunday Service in the Spring. Anybody who is on the Mission Initiative Roll, is baptised, aged 16 or above, and has been regularly attending River Church for 6 months or more is eligible to nominate somebody as a prospective trustee, and to vote if a vote is required. In order to be eligible to serve as a trustee, somebody must receive 2 or more nominations, and meet certain criteria including agreement with our Basis of Faith and Code of Conduct.

If you are interested in nominating somebody to serve as a trustee, please get in touch with Amy or Matt to discuss this. Nominations for our 2026 Annual Meeting must be received by Monday 9th March and the Family Meeting itself will be held on Sunday 22nd March at THE TEN.
